27TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

We invite proposals for tutorials to be held as part of the pre-conference programme during the first two days of the conference.

Tutorials should serve one or more of the following objectives:

• Introduce novices to major topics within Artificial Intelligence.

• Introduce expert non-specialists to an AI subarea.

• Introduce expert non-specialists to the use of readily deployed AI tools (e.g. machine learning models) in various areas of AI research.

• Motivate and explain a topic of emerging importance for AI.

• Survey a mature area of AI research and/or practice.

• Provide instruction in established but specialized AI methodologies.

• Present a novel synthesis combining distinct lines of AI work.

• Introduce AI audience to an external topic that can motivate or use AI research.

• Mentor AI researchers (particularly, junior researchers) on a broad AI-relevant non-technical topic (examples could be AI jobs, or ethical issues in AI).

Tutorials are intended to cover reasonably well-established information in a balanced way. Tutorials should not be used to advocate a single avenue of research, nor should they promote a product. We encourage tutorials with a hands-on component or other interactive elements. We also welcome tutorials on topical subjects, particularly those with social or industrial implications, such as privacy, security, fairness, or ethics in AI.

  Saturday-Sunday, 19-20 October 2024 (half-day or quarter-day)

The deadline is at the end of the day specified, anywhere on Earth (UTC-12).

Tutorial proposals should be submitted as a single PDF (of at most 4 pages) and must include the following information.

Meta information

• Title of the tutorial

• Proposed format of the tutorial: half-day or quarter-day

• Expected number of attendees

Information for the tutorial selection process

• A brief description of why the tutorial topic would be of interest to a substantial part of the ECAI audience

  • Which of the above objectives are best served by the tutorial?

  • Who is the target audience of the tutorial (first-year PhD students?, experienced researchers?), including prerequisite knowledge?

  • What knowledge will be conveyed?

  • What techniques/methods, concepts, or modeling frameworks will be conveyed?

  • Will it be demonstrated in particular application scenarios? If so, in which?

  • Why is the topic innovative/relevant?

• A detailed, point-form outline of the tutorial.

• A brief resume of the presenter(s), which should include:

  • Name, affiliation, email address

  • Background in the tutorial area, including a list of publications/presentations

  • Citation to an available example of work in the area (ideally, a published tutorial-level article or presentation materials on the subject)

  • Evidence of teaching experience (courses taught or references)

  • Evidence of scholarship in AI or Computer Science

Information for communication purposes

• A two-sentence description of the tutorial, suitable for inclusion in the conference brochure

• A two-paragraph description of the tutorial, suitable for inclusion on the conference website. It should mention the target audience

• A brief bio statement of the presenter(s)

• For each presenter, a link to a picture that may be used by ECAI

ECAI will provide a free registration for the pre-conference programme for one presenter of each tutorial. Any additional presenters will have to register and pay the registration fee.

Please understand that we may have to cancel a tutorial if not enough participants register or if deadlines are not met. We are aiming for at least 10 registered participants by the early registration deadline.
